MY COUNSELLING APPROACH

Holistic, relational, collaborative, integrative, strength based

Holistic and Relational

I believe in a holistic approach to counselling and feel honoured to build connections with individuals who are navigating life. My goal is to cultivate an authentic, accepting relationship where individuals feel supported, seen and valued while working toward healing and wellbeing. My education, vocational background, and life experience are woven into my counselling approach.

Additionally, I believe in the uniqueness, value, dignity, and resilience that each person carries. I draw from various therapeutic approaches to meet an individual's unique concerns and goals. My hope is that this integrated framework provides a collaborative and supportive context to explore, untangle, navigate, and cope with challenges and complexities of life.

Collaborative

As an individual, you come to counselling with your unique experiences, personal strengths and life stories. Your background, history and relationships contribute to who you are, the patterns that have developed, and how you perceive the world. I bring my experiences of life, combined with my education.

We will navigate this journey together; but you know your life best. I will seek to honour that. You may want to explore your past, find strategies for this moment, or make changes that will impact your future. Together, we will identify where you want to focus and experience change.

Integrative

An integrative approach means that I draw from various counselling modalities, while keeping a person-centered, compassion-based and trauma-informed framework. This  includes components and principles from approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Bowen Family Systems, Solutions Focused Therapy (SFT), and others. We might also integrate mindfulness, creative arts, journalling, or music as we seek to create a plan that best meets your values, personality and goals.

Strength-based

We will look at some of life's challenges, but also explore the strengths that have brought you to this place. The fact that you are here suggests that you carry elements of strength, resilience and perseverance. In this season, you might wish you were stronger, you might not be holding everything together the way you want, you may be suffering, or experiencing great grief and loss, but somewhere even in all of that, you are here right now. We will explore those strands of hope and resilience.
